Patna and several parts of Bihar witnessed sudden heavy rainfall on Friday night, March 27, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Patna reported a 62% chance of rain continuing through the night. This weather activity follows a series of alerts issued for the state due to a pre-monsoon system affecting Eastern India. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as the weather remains unstable across the region.

What is the latest weather forecast for Patna and Bihar

The IMD has placed Patna and 28 other districts on a Yellow Alert for light rain and strong winds. According to Meteorologist Sanjay Kumar, activities like gusty winds and thunderstorms are common during the pre-monsoon season from March to May. However, the intensity is currently high enough to cause damage to temporary structures and trees. Director Ashish Kumar from the Patna Meteorological Centre has also warned of heavy rain in North Bihar for the next seven days due to an active system. Temperature levels are expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius within the next 48 hours across the state.

Impact on local residents and safety measures

The recent weather changes have already resulted in casualties and injuries in different parts of the state. On March 21, six people lost their lives due to lightning and storm-related incidents in Bihar, while ten laborers were injured in Patna district alone. Experts advise people to stay indoors during thunder and lightning to avoid such risks. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40 to 60 kmph which may lead to power supply disruptions and falling tree branches.

  • Farmers should stop irrigation activities and move crops to shaded areas
  • Avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during the storm
  • Kharif preparation and harvested crops must be protected from moisture
  • Stay updated with local administration alerts for sudden weather changes
