Nalanda police have taken swift action following a disturbing incident in Ajaypur village where a married woman was publicly harassed and a sexual assault attempt was made. The incident occurred on the evening of March 26 when the victim was returning home after buying groceries. After the woman filed a complaint on March 27, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to track down the culprits who also filmed the incident and shared it online.
What happened during the incident and who are the accused?
The victim is a married woman whose husband works in Maharashtra. She was intercepted by three local men from her own village while she was on her way home. The suspects reportedly misbehaved with her and filmed the act, which was later circulated on social media. While some bystanders filmed the incident, some villagers eventually reached the spot which forced the attackers to flee. The police identified the suspects as residents of the same village. Ashok Yadav and Matlu Mahto, also known as Navneet Kumar Narottam, are currently in judicial custody. The third accused, Ravikant Kumar, is still at large and police are conducting raids to find him.

The Noorsarai police station registered an FIR under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Nalanda SP Bharat Soni confirmed that the SIT led by DSP-II Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal is investigating every aspect of the case. The police are also looking into claims of past enmity while ensuring the victim receives justice.
