The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert for 11 states from Delhi to Bihar starting April 2, 2026. A fresh Western Disturbance is moving towards Northwest India, which is expected to trigger rain, thunderstorms, and high-speed winds across various regions. While this change in weather will offer much-needed relief from the increasing heat, officials have warned about potential challenges such as lightning strikes and disruptions to road travel.

How will the weather change in Delhi and Bihar on April 2?

In Delhi-NCR, the sky is expected to remain cloudy with light rain and very strong winds reaching speeds of 60 to 70 km/h on April 2. This activity will help in bringing down the current temperatures. Bihar is likely to see more intense conditions, with cities like Patna and Muzaffarpur facing heavy rain and storm alerts. The department has predicted winds of up to 60 km/h in Bihar, with the possibility of lightning strikes continuing until April 6 in some areas.

State-wise Weather Alerts and Wind Speed Predictions

The IMD has placed several other states under a yellow alert due to the expected thunderstorms and dust storms. Residents are advised to avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning and to secure loose structures that could be affected by strong winds.

State Weather Alert Details Wind Speed
Uttar Pradesh Rain and strong winds expected until April 3 40-50 km/h
Rajasthan Light to moderate rain in Jaipur and Jaisalmer 60 km/h
Chhattisgarh Hailstorm and storm activities on April 1-2 70 km/h
Punjab & Haryana Yellow alert for light rain until April 6 40-60 km/h
Uttarakhand Rain and thunder in hilly regions 40-60 km/h
Madhya Pradesh Cloudy skies and rain in multiple districts 50 km/h

Apart from these regions, states like Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and the North-Eastern states are also expected to witness heavy rain and hailstorms. The IMD suggests that standing crops might face some impact due to these unexpected weather conditions. Travelers in hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand should remain cautious between April 3 and April 4 as the weather patterns shift.
