400 Electric Buses Gifted to Delhi Residents

The residents of Delhi have been gifted with 400 electric buses. The central and state governments are planning to increase this number to hundreds of thousands in the near future to promote green energy in the capital city. With the deployment of 400 new electric buses, the total number of e-buses in Delhi has reached 800.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V.K. Saxena, and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal showcased the 400 electric buses on Tuesday, bringing the total number of such buses in the national capital to 800. The event took place at the IP Depot in Delhi. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot congratulated the residents of Delhi on this achievement. Kejriwal shared the news on Twitter, stating that the 400 buses showcased on Tuesday are part of the 921 e-buses being purchased under the subsidy scheme.

The central government has provided a subsidy of 417 crore rupees for these electric buses, while the Delhi government will spend 3,674 crore rupees from its treasury for this scheme. The Chief Minister stated that Delhi currently has the highest number of electric buses in the country. The government aims to bring a total of 8,000 electric buses on Delhi’s roads by the end of 2025, with over 80% of the buses being electric.
