Government Holds Review Meeting on Production-Linked Incentive Scheme for Auto Sector

The Ministry of Heavy Industries held a review meeting with stakeholders on the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the automotive sector on August 29. The meeting, chaired by Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey, concluded with the approval of several suggestions. The ministry also announced the extension of the PLI scheme from the financial year 2026-27 to 2027-28.

According to a PTI report, the ministry has accepted the suggestion of opening additional agencies for testing the ‘local growth’ in the PLI approval process to expedite it. Currently, there are only two agencies that conduct the ‘DVIA’ testing with parts fulfilling 50% localization at a minimum cost of localization. This number will increase to four agencies in the future. MHAI has also accepted the suggestion of providing quarterly subsidy process by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

The review meeting was attended by major companies in the automotive sector such as Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ola Electric, Ashok Leyland, Hyundai Motor, Bosch, and Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts, along with representatives from MHAI, NITI Aayog, ARAI, ICAT, GARC, SIAM, and NATRAX. The officials from ACMA and NATRAX also participated. The Indian government aims to make the Indian automotive industry the third-largest in the world by 2030, and the PLI scheme will play a crucial role in this process.
