Launch of Kia EV9 Electric SUV
The Kia EV9 Electric SUV was first showcased at an Auto Expo held in January. It was later launched in South Korea, and the company announced that it plans to launch the EV9 in India by 2025. The automaker revealed plans to launch three new models within the next three years, including two new electric vehicles.
Kia’s Electric Vehicles in India
Kia launched its first electric car, the EV6, in India last year. The brand’s goal is to strengthen its position in the EV segment with more offerings. Kia India’s Managing Director and CEO Tae-Jin Park was quoted by PTI saying, “In 2025, we will lead locally. Produce EVs on a large scale and then continue to introduce electric models every year.”
About Kia EV9 Electric SUV
The Kia EV9 will be based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which is also the basis for the automaker’s first electric car, the EV6. The EV9 is over five meters long, with proportions similar to its global SUV, the Telluride. It will be available in a six or seven-seat configuration and will be offered in two variants called the HT Line and GT Line.
Features and Performance of Kia EV9
According to Kia, the EV9 will have a range of up to 541 kilometers on a single charge. The 150-kilowatt electric motor promises that the EV9 can reach speeds of 0-100 km/h in just 9.4 seconds. The EV9 will come in a RWD version with a more powerful 160-kilowatt electric motor. The EV features an 800-volt electrical architecture that enables ultra-fast charging. Kia claims that the EV9 can travel 239 kilometers with just 15 minutes of charging.
The top-of-the-line Kia EV9 GT-Line will offer Level 3 ADAS with its Highway Driving Pilot feature for a safe driving experience on the road. It is equipped with 15 sensors, including two lidars, radar, and cameras. The Kia EV9 is the second model of the Korean auto giant set to be launched in India in 2024. The automaker has also confirmed that the new Carnival MPV will return to the market next year.
