Mahindra all set to launch Thar 5-door
Mahindra and Mahindra are fully prepared to launch their Thar 5-door early next year. Similar to its 3-door model, the larger 5-door Thar will include several features with additional styling tweaks and feature editions, including a larger touchscreen display.
Targeting SUV Buyers with More Features
With the Thar 5-door, Mahindra is targeting SUV buyers who want a vehicle that can be used for daily tasks as well as off-road and outdoor activities. The 5-door model is expected to offer more comfort with added features. Spy shots indicate that some variants will feature a sunroof, front and rear center armrests, and a new infotainment screen among other features. The current 3-door model comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, while the new test mule has been spotted with a floating look with a nearly 10-inch or larger screen.
Varying Screen Sizes
Currently, Mahindra offers touchscreens of various sizes in its SUV line-up. This includes a 7-inch screen in the Thar 3-door, up to 8-inches in the Scorpio N, 9-inch units in the XUV300 and XUV400, and a large 10.25-inch screen on the XUV700. The Thar 3-door has a 7-inch screen, the interface and display of which has been heavily criticized. The Thar 5-door with a larger screen will be a significant step for the company.
Set to Launch Next Year
The production-spec Thar 5-door with petrol and diesel engines could be launched early next year. Currently, the company has a pending order for delivery of over 280,000 vehicles. By August 2023, the Thar has already received more than 68,000 bookings. This SUV receives 10,000 new orders every month. Mahindra has confirmed that the demand for Thar 2WD is very high and currently has a waiting period of about 15 months, while its 4WD has a waiting period of about five months.
Competitors
After launch, this car will compete with Maruti Jimny 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door. The Jimny is available for sale, while the Gurkha 5-door will soon be in the market.
