Bajaj Auto, one of India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturers, is set to launch the world’s first CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) motorcycle. The new bike from Bajaj will run on both petrol and CNG. While petrol and CNG are commonly used to power four-wheelers in India, this will be the first time that a two-wheeler will be powered by both fuels. The new CNG bike is expected to bring a major change in the automobile sector.
The Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj, announced the launch date of the world’s first CNG motorcycle during the recent launch of Bajaj’s new powerful and fastest Pulsar NS400Z. He said that Bajaj Auto will launch the world’s first CNG motorcycle in the Indian market on June 18, 2024. This new innovation from Bajaj Auto has the potential to revolutionize the automobile industry, even though other two-wheeler manufacturers in India have not been working on this kind of CNG bike.
The new CNG bike from Bajaj will have a dual-fuel system that can be switched between petrol and CNG. While the petrol tank will be in its usual position, the CNG tank will be placed under the seat. The bike is expected to have an engine of around 100 to 125cc with a 6-speed gearbox. It will be the most fuel-efficient motorcycle in its category, providing more mileage than petrol-powered bikes.
Apart from the CNG bike, Bajaj Auto has also created a stir in the electric segment with its popular electric scooter, Chetak. The company is planning to launch an affordable variant of the Chetak electric scooter in the near future, catering to the middle-class segment of India. With these new innovations, Bajaj Auto is set to bring about a significant change in the Indian automobile industry.
