Delhi Government resumes registration of BS-6 diesel buses and tempo traveler
- The registration for BS-6 diesel buses and tempo traveler has been resumed in the capital city of Delhi. This decision by the Delhi government has brought joy to the transporters as it will increase revenue for Delhi and benefit the general public. It will also give a boost to tourism. In 2017, the registration of diesel commercial vehicles was banned to control pollution. However, there was an exemption for diesel vehicles from other states.
- The former Assistant Commissioner of the Transport Department, Anil Chikara, stated that the ban on commercial diesel vehicles was imposed during his tenure. Around a thousand commercial diesel vehicles were registered every year, generating revenue of approximately 30 to 35 thousand rupees in taxes and one lakh rupees in GST and road tax, which were levied on vehicle registration.
- Sanjay Samrat, President of the Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transport Association, revealed that there were around two thousand affected transporters in the capital city. The ban on diesel vehicle registration affected all of them. Transporters had to purchase vehicles from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and register them at those addresses, causing inconvenience and revenue loss. Now, the registration has been resumed, providing relief to everyone and boosting tourism as well.
- Sanjay Samrat also explained that the ban on registration resulted in the loss of crores of rupees in revenue every year. The revenue generated from registration will now be utilized for the development of Delhi. The income of Delhi transporters will increase, and the use of BS-6 vehicles will significantly reduce pollution. It is worth mentioning that during the G-20 summit, the Transport Department had opened the registration of BS-6 commercial vehicles for the representatives attending the summit. Some transporters had also approached the Supreme Court regarding this matter.
