1999 Lok Sabha Election Incident

In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, Maoists in Chhattisgarh had declared a boycott of voting, threatening dire consequences for anyone who cast their vote. Despite the Maoists’ threats, the first vote in this area was cast by Jasmuddin Ansari, which increased enthusiasm among the people and prompted others to come out of their homes to vote. The Maoists were taken aback and cut Jasmuddin’s hand as a punishment.

25-Year-Old Incident

Even after 25 years, Jasmuddin continued to vote in elections. This incident from 25 years ago is still remembered by the district administration as a symbol of Jasmuddin’s courage. He continues to actively engage in educating voters and participating in the electoral process.

Changing Times and Government Action

Twenty-five years ago, Naxalites had a strong presence in Chhattisgarh and other parts of Jharkhand, disrupting development and peaceful voting. Over time, governments have taken action against Naxalites, gradually breaking their hold and creating a safer environment for voting.

Courage Recognized by District Administration

Jasmuddin Ansari, a resident of Chhattisgarh, is considered a role model for voters. Despite having his hand cut off by Maoists during the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, he continues to actively participate in voting. The district administration commends his courage and urges all voters to participate fearlessly in the democratic process.
