Bihar Weather Update
After a dry spell of nearly 19 days, the monsoon has become active once again in Bihar. Heavy rains have started in districts like Bhagalpur with strong winds. According to IMD Patna’s forecast, Bihar is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next five days, with heavy rains predicted in north-eastern Bihar and normal rainfall in the rest of the state.
Alert Issued for Certain Districts
IMD has issued alerts for heavy rainfall in Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Madhepura, and Araria on Friday. Thunderstorm warnings have been issued for the southern and south-eastern parts of Bihar. Orange alerts have been issued for both heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Buxar recorded the highest rainfall of 190 mm on Thursday, with heavy rains reported in several other areas like Nalanda, Darbhanga, and Patna.
Reason for Weather Change
The change in weather patterns is due to monsoonal conditions. IMD states that the monsoon trough line is passing through Dehradun in Bihar and another trough is passing through south-eastern Bihar. This has led to the resumption of rainfall in Bihar after a period of stagnation.
Expected Rainfall in August
IMD’s long-range forecast predicts above-normal rainfall in northern and south-western Bihar for the entire month of August. Most districts in these regions are expected to receive significantly more rainfall than usual. As of now, Bihar has received 333 mm of rainfall during the monsoon season, which is 35% below normal. In July alone, Bihar received 29% less rainfall than normal at 241.3 mm.
