Indian Railways is bringing a major update for passengers traveling between Bihar and Jharkhand. The frequency of the Ara-Ranchi Express (18639/18640) is set to increase from three days to six days a week. This new proposal aims to provide better connectivity and will include a new route via Sasaram. This move helps thousands of passengers who travel between the Palamu division and Ara for work and education.

New Route and Schedule Changes
Currently, the train runs only on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Under the new plan, the service will operate six days a week to manage the high demand. The train will follow two different routes during the week to cover more stations.
- 3 Days: Via the old route of Gomoh, Koderma, and Gaya.
- 3 Days: Via the new route of Sasaram, Sonnagar, Daltonganj, and Lohardaga.
The route via Lohardaga and Tori is shorter, which is expected to reduce the total travel time between Ranchi and Ara. The final date for the start of this 6-day schedule is under review and will be shared soon.
Benefits for Students and Patients
This expansion is very helpful for the common people living in the Palamu division. Until now, there was no direct train linking Palamu with Ara, forcing people to change trains at Gaya or Sasaram. This direct service will save time for patients visiting hospitals and students going to colleges.
The train will stop at major stations like Piro, Bikramganj, Dehri-on-Sone, Garhwa Road, and Tori on the new route. The train will continue to use modern LHB coaches with AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, and Sleeper classes. Standard Mail/Express fares will apply to these tickets.
