Summary:
– Express train fare is being charged from passengers in most of the passenger trains running in East Central Railway Saharsa railway section.
– Railways is charging three times more fare than the fixed fare for passenger trains, causing financial losses for passengers but earning more profits for Railways.
– The fares of passenger trains were fixed before the Corona period, but after the Corona period, the fare of the passenger trains running in the name of Express Special is three times higher.
– Passengers are upset due to higher fares as express fares are being charged for the same place and facilities are provided as per passenger trains.
Passenger train service in the name of Express
Before the Corona period, the fares of passenger trains were fixed. Every passenger train used to have the same fare, but after the Corona period, the fare of the passenger trains which are being run in the name of Express Special is three times higher. i.e. Express train fare is being collected from the passengers.
Special trains running in Saharsa railway sections have stoppages at all the stations and halts. Whereas the stoppage of express train remains at main stations except halts. This saves time for passengers. Many passengers said that express fare is being charged in the train and the facilities are being provided as per passenger train.
Passengers upset due to higher fares
Many passengers said in an angry voice that higher fares were being charged for the same place. Sanjay Gupta of Bhanu, Gangjala, a resident of Gandhi Path of the city, says in an angry tone that on Sunday morning at 07.45 from Saharsa, he went to Dhamara Ghat station by passenger train number 05275, where the fare for ticket number URF 87719323 from Saharsa was forty rupees for four passengers. That means a ticket of ten rupees per passenger was given.
On the same day, when we returned to Saharsa by train number 05244 at Dhamahara station at 10:45 in the morning, the fare for four passengers in that train was Rs 120. Whose ticket number was URF 85784422 to 85784424. Thirty rupees were charged per passenger.
So, to say express special train but like a passenger train, it reached Saharsa stopping at every station-halt. Had to pay different fares for commuting from the same station. If this is not the arbitrariness of the Railways then what is it?
“Fares in trains are fixed. There are different fares for passenger and express trains. What about express special and passenger train. Let’s find out. Let’s see, what is the matter- Vinay Srivastava, Divisional Railway Manager, East Central Railway.”
