Auto Driver Kidnapped for Ransom in Dhanbad

On Friday evening in the Sadar Thana area of Dhanbad, auto driver Santosh Das, a resident of Bartand, was kidnapped for ransom. However, he managed to escape from the clutches of the criminals in a dramatic manner the following Saturday morning. Despite the kidnapping, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding the incident.

Threats and Demands for Ransom

Santosh Das received a call from an unknown person for auto booking on Friday. He reached Prem Gali in Heerapur with the auto during the booking and was then taken to the Bartand Thana area by two youths who were riding the auto. There, six other masked youths boarded the auto and forcibly took Santosh Das to an unknown location, threatening him and demanding a ransom from his family.

Police Action and Failed Ransom Exchange

After Santosh Das managed to inform his family about the kidnapping, the family immediately contacted the police. The police then traced the last location of the phone call and worked with the Bartand police to try to catch the criminals throughout the night. The criminals demanded a ransom of 50 lakhs, which was later reduced to 15 lakhs during the failed exchange under a bridge in Govindpur-Sahibganj road.

Failed Capture and Dramatic Escape

Even though the police tried to apprehend the criminals at the pre-decided location for the ransom exchange, the two criminals managed to escape by deceiving the police. However, one criminal’s mobile phone was dropped at the scene, which the police seized. The criminal’s attempt to take the bag was unsuccessful, and Santosh Das was ultimately freed from captivity in a rural area with the help of the villagers.
