How was the liquor discovered?

The seizure happened during a search operation at the Bagaha station. The RPF team was checking the compartments of the Satyagraha Express when they noticed a suspicious bag. When the officers asked the passengers nearby, no one claimed ownership of the bag.

Upon opening the unclaimed bag, the police found 155 pieces of English liquor inside. Authorities suspect that smugglers brought this consignment from Uttar Pradesh, as Bagaha is a border station. The smugglers likely abandoned the bag seeing the police check.

What action is the administration taking?

The RPF has confiscated the liquor since no owner was found. According to the official procedure, the seized alcohol is being handed over to the Excise Department (Utpaad Vibhag). The department will carry out further legal proceedings and destroy the illegal material as per the state laws.

Security has been tightened at all railway stations connecting Bihar and UP under ‘Operation Satark’. Officials are also checking CCTV footage from boarding stations to identify the people who placed the bag on the train. The administration has warned of strict penalties for anyone caught smuggling liquor during the festival season.
