In Bhojpur, the local alcohol department is stepping up its efforts to tackle illegal liquor trade ahead of the assembly elections and Dussehra festival. Following instructions from District Officer Tanay Sultania, Assistant Commissioner Rajneesh acted on a tip-off about a car transporting foreign liquor from Uttar Pradesh to Danapur.
A team was formed, led by Inspector Prakash Chandra, to carry out the raid. On the morning of September 25, 2025, near the Kayamnagar over bridge on the Buxar-Patna Fourlane, they stopped a Mahindra XUV 5o for a routine check. Upon inspection, they found a large quantity of illegal liquor hidden inside the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Ashwani Kumar Jha from Purnia, has been arrested. The police seized 1,680 bottles of PM Special Whisky and 240 bottles of After Dark Blue Rare Grain Whisky, totaling approximately 345.600 liters. The car itself did not have any registration number, raising further suspicions.
The market value of the seized liquor is estimated to be around 5 lakhs. The raiding team included various police personnel and will continue their operations against illegal liquor as part of their ongoing campaign during this festive and electoral period.
As the situation develops, authorities are focused on maintaining law and order by cracking down on illegal activities. The campaign against illegal liquor will remain active to ensure a safe environment for the upcoming elections and celebrations.
