Key Demands for Bihar Agricultural Growth

  • Special Agriculture Package: The state has requested dedicated financial support to strengthen the pulses and oilseeds missions.
  • Priority Status: Bihar has urged the centre to include the state in the priority list for pulse and oilseed production in India.
  • Infrastructure Development: The package focuses on improving irrigation facilities, modernizing storage, and providing advanced seeds to farmers.
  • Central Assistance: Additional technical and financial help was requested under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana and PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana.
  • Digital Farmer IDs: More than 47 lakh digital Farmer IDs have already been generated in Bihar to streamline government benefits.

MSP Procurement and Crop Targets for 2026

In a major development, the central government has approved the procurement of Masur (Lentil) at MSP for the first time in Bihar. The state plans to purchase 32,000 metric tonnes of Masur between April 10 and May 31, 2026. Payment for the crops will be directly credited to the bank accounts of farmers within 48 hours of verification.
