The Bihar Legislative Assembly has taken a major step to improve rail connectivity for daily commuters. On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the House officially approved a proposal to run a new pair of express trains between Chhapra and Patna. During the session, a total of 141 non-government resolutions were presented, but only three specific railway-related proposals were accepted. The state government has confirmed that these recommendations will now be forwarded to the Central Government for final action.
What is the Proposal for the Chhapra-Patna Train?
The resolution for the new train service was introduced by MLA Chhoti Kumari. She highlighted that the current transport facilities are not enough to handle the heavy passenger load between the Saran division headquarters and the state capital. Residents of Saran, Siwan, and Gopalganj often face difficulties due to overcrowding.
Transport Minister Shravan Kumar addressed the House and stated that the state government supports this demand. He assured the members that the proposal would be sent to the Ministry of Railways. Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar also issued directions to ensure the recommendation reaches the Center promptly so that a regular express service can be started.
Which Other Railway Projects Were Approved?
Along with the Chhapra-Patna train, the Assembly cleared two other significant proposals to boost regional development and connectivity:
- Lohna-Muktapur Link: MLA Maithili Thakur proposed connecting the railway lines between Lohna and Muktapur in Darbhanga district. This move is expected to help the development of the Ghanshyampur and Taradih blocks.
- Hathua Station Stoppage: A proposal by MLA Ramsevak Singh was accepted to provide official halts for long-distance trains at Hathua railway station in Gopalganj district.
These approved resolutions are now set to move to the Railway Board in New Delhi for technical feasibility studies and budget allocation.
