Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the construction site of the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur 6-lane Ganga Bridge on Sunday for a high-level inspection. During his visit on February 8, 2026, he reviewed the progress at pier number 54 and instructed officials to speed up the remaining work. The Chief Minister set a strict deadline, directing that the project must be fully operational by April 2026.
What are the key details and cost of the project?
The total cost of this massive project is approximately ₹4,988.40 crore. The funding includes a loan of ₹3,000 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and ₹2,000 crore from the Bihar Government. The bridge is being constructed by a joint venture between India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and South Korea’s Daewoo E&C. It features 67 piers and uses high-tensile cables imported from South Korea.
How will this bridge improve connectivity for commuters?
This bridge is designed to reduce the load on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and serves as a vital part of the state’s plan to connect any remote area to Patna within 4 hours. The project will connect with the Amas–Darbhanga Expressway, making travel easier for people going towards Samastipur, Darbhanga, and Madhubani. While Phase 1 was opened in June 2025, the full completion in April 2026 will provide seamless connectivity for North and South Bihar.
