Bihar to Manufacture Tanks and Missiles in Gaya, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary Announces Defense Corridor

Bihar is set to witness a major industrial transformation with the establishment of a new Defense Corridor in the Gaya district. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary held a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Ministry of Defense on February 4, 2026, to finalize the roadmap. The government plans to manufacture tanks, missiles, and other defense equipment within the state, aiming to generate employment for over one lakh people.

Where will the Defense Corridor be built?

The state government has selected the Dobhi region in Gaya district for this massive project. It will be part of the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) which covers an area of approximately 1,670 acres. The project is being developed under the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and the state industry department.

A Special Purpose Vehicle named ‘Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Limited’ (BIMCGL) was formed on January 6, 2025, to handle the operations. This area is strategically located near NH-19 and NH-22, which allows for easy transportation of heavy machinery and raw materials needed for weapon manufacturing.

How much investment and jobs are expected?

The total estimated investment for this cluster is around ₹16,524 crore. The government has already allocated ₹462.14 crore specifically for land acquisition. This initiative is expected to create 1.09 lakh direct jobs for the youth of Bihar, reducing the need for migration to other states for work.

The corridor will feature ‘Plug and Play’ infrastructure, meaning the basic facilities will be ready for companies to start operations immediately. The construction work will follow the EPC model, and the final agency selection is scheduled to be completed by March 2026.
