Bihar Government Approves Land Acquisition for Saharsa and Bhagalpur Airports, Boosting Air Connectivity and Economic Growth

Bihar’s Nitish Kumar cabinet took some important steps to boost air travel in the state during a meeting on Wednesday. They approved compensation for land acquisition needed for the expansion of airports in Saharsa and Bhagalpur. This move is part of a larger plan to improve air connectivity and support economic growth in Bihar.

For Saharsa Airport, the government has approved the acquisition of over 12 acres of land to expand its runway. The estimated compensation for this land is about ₹147 crore. This expansion is crucial as Saharsa has been asking for a functional airport for a long time. It will help in starting passenger flights and enhance tourism and business in the Mithilanchal region.

In addition, there is also a plan for a new Bhagalpur Greenfield Airport, which will require 931 acres of land. The compensation for this land is estimated to be around ₹472 crore. This airport will serve as a major hub for air travel in Bhagalpur and nearby areas, improving overall connectivity.

These developments are part of Bihar’s ongoing efforts to connect its major cities through air travel. The state has already launched Darbhanga Airport and is working on an international airport in Bihta, Patna. The land acquisition for Saharsa and Bhagalpur airports marks another step in enhancing air services across the state.

With these approvals, the process for land acquisition will begin soon, allowing construction work to start shortly after. Once these airports are operational, it will be much easier for people in North Bihar and the Anga region to travel to bigger cities, helping boost trade, tourism, and the overall economy of Bihar.
