The Bihar government has taken a significant step to support the families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha confirmed that dependents of martyred soldiers will now receive land for their livelihood. The Revenue and Land Reforms Department has issued official guidelines to ensure eligible families get these benefits without any bureaucratic delay. This initiative aims to provide financial security to the families of bravehearts who belonged to the state.

Who is Eligible for the Land Scheme?

According to the new rules notified by Department Secretary Jay Singh, this scheme covers martyrs from the Indian Army and Paramilitary Forces. This includes personnel from BSF, CRPF, Assam Rifles, and Bihar Military Police. To be eligible, the soldier must have been a permanent resident of Bihar and served continuously for at least six months before sacrificing their life in the line of duty.

The government has set a specific condition regarding land ownership. The benefit is available only to those dependents who do not own private residential land. If a family already possesses land for housing, they will not be eligible for this specific settlement. Families must provide a certificate from the Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen Board to verify the service and martyr status.

Land Options and Cost Details

Eligible dependents have been given two choices for land allotment. They can opt for one acre of government land specifically for agricultural purposes. Alternatively, if they prefer land for housing, they can choose to receive five decimals of land. The allotted plot will be located in the rural area of the martyr’s home block within their home district.

Regarding the cost, the government has kept it nominal. A symbolic token amount, known as ‘salami’, will be charged for the settlement. To further assist the families, the government has announced a waiver on the annual rent (lagan) for the first five years after the land is allotted. This ensures that the families do not face an immediate financial burden after receiving the property.
