Bihar Government Mandates Vehicle Location Tracking Devices for All Registered Vehicles to Enhance Road Safety and Monitoring

Bihar is taking a big step to improve vehicle safety. Currently, only about 1,100 out of over 48,000 vehicles with a National Permit have tracking devices. This means that most vehicles cannot be monitored online. The Transport Minister, Shravan Kumar, shared this information during a press conference in Nalanda.

In a recent review meeting, the government decided that all vehicles must have these tracking devices installed within 15 days. If vehicle agencies fail to comply, they will face strict actions. This rule aims to ensure better safety and accountability for public transport.

The Transport Minister pointed out that since 2019, only 46% of registered public transport vehicles have tracking devices. Ten companies are currently responsible for installing these devices. If they don’t show progress, their contracts might be canceled. New vehicles must come with tracking devices, but some agencies are still not following this rule properly.

These tracking devices will help provide real-time information about the vehicle’s location, speed, and capacity. This is especially important as road accidents and crimes involving vehicles are on the rise. The government believes that quick access to vehicle data can help in emergencies and improve monitoring, even in rural areas.

Moving forward, the government is serious about these measures. They are giving a clear 15-day deadline for the installation of tracking devices. If there are no improvements, both vehicle agencies and installation companies will face consequences. This is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety in Bihar.
