Bihar Government Promotes 26 IPS Officers to Boost Police Morale and Administrative Stability Ahead of Election Year

The Bihar government has started the new year with a significant announcement. On January 1, 2026, they promoted 26 officers from the Indian Police Service (IPS) to higher ranks within their current positions. This decision has sparked discussions in political and administrative circles across the state.

This promotion means that these officers will not be moving to new postings, but their current roles have been elevated. The Home Ministry has issued a notification confirming this change. Supporters of the decision believe it aims to stabilize administration and value experience, while critics see it as a move to win over bureaucracy ahead of the elections.

Among those promoted, Kundan Krishnan, a 1994 batch IPS officer, stands out. He has moved up from the rank of Additional Director General (ADG) to Director General (DG). His previous roles included significant responsibilities, and now he will be recognized at the DG level, indicating a trust in his capabilities.

In addition, 22 officers at the Superintendent of Police (SP) level have been raised to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) pay scale. This group includes officers from key districts like Patna and Gaya, and those in important units like the Railway Police and Special Task Force have also received promotions. Three officers from the 2008 batch have been promoted to Inspector General (IG) rank.

The Bihar government is showing its commitment to enhancing the ability and dedication of the police force.
