The Bihar government has shared a big update for travelers in the state. Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal announced the plan to build two new high-speed corridors during the recent Assembly session. The main goal of these projects is to reduce travel time significantly across the state. The government has set a clear target to ensure that people from any district can reach the capital city, Patna, within four hours. These new roads will connect important religious places and several districts, making daily commute and pilgrimage much easier.
What is the route of Pashupatinath–Baidyanath Corridor?
The first major project announced is the Pashupatinath–Baidyanath High-Speed Corridor. This road will be approximately 250 kilometers long. It is designed as a four-lane speed corridor that connects the Nepal border to Deoghar in Jharkhand. This route is expected to be very helpful for pilgrims visiting these holy sites.
The corridor will pass through many important locations. It starts from the Nepal border and goes via Bhimnagar, Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Munger, and Banka before reaching Baidyanath Dham. The government also plans to build a dedicated service road between Sultanganj and Deoghar. This special lane will be used by barefoot pilgrims, known as Kanwariyas, ensuring their safety during the journey.
Details of Narayani–Ganga Greenfield Corridor and New Rules
The second proposed road is the Narayani–Ganga Greenfield Corridor. This will be a four or six-lane expressway covering a distance of 225 kilometers. It is planned to start at Bagaha in West Champaran and link to the Patna–Ara–Sasaram high-speed corridor. A major part of this project includes constructing a new bridge over the Gandak River.
Along with these corridors, the government has decided to upgrade all single-lane state highways and major district roads to at least two lanes. The Road Construction Department has sought a budget of over ₹8,260 crore for the next financial year to manage these developments. Proposals for both corridors have been sent to the central government for final clearance and funding.
