Powers and Responsibilities of Rural SPs
With this new notification, the Rural SPs have been given clear authority to maintain discipline. They can now directly suspend officers up to the rank of Police Inspector and Sub-Inspector (Daroga) if found negligent. They are also tasked with inspecting subordinate police establishments, reviewing crime control measures, and monitoring daily reports.
The order also states that administrative branches within the SP offices will be divided between the District SP and the Rural SP. While the Rural SP handles local disciplinary actions, they must consult the District SP for matters regarding the suspension of Police Line officials. Attendance at the weekly police parade and police assemblies is also mandatory for them.
