This article discusses the alarming road accident situation in Bihar and the government’s efforts to improve road safety in specific districts.

Bihar is facing serious road safety issues with accidents happening daily. Recently, the government has identified 100 districts across India where road accidents are most frequent. Among them, six districts in Bihar—Patna, Muzaffarpur, Saran, Motihari, Gaya, and Nalanda—have been marked as ‘zero fatality districts’, aiming for no deaths on the roads.

This announcement came during a meeting held in New Delhi, chaired by the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister. Bihar’s Transport Minister, Shravan Kumar, shared that the state is actively working on eliminating road accidents by addressing each cause identified in these problem areas.

To enhance road safety, Bihar’s administration is taking significant steps. In 2025, there have already been 484 high-level meetings involving various departments that look into accident-prone spots. The state is also organizing campaigns including rallies and training programs for drivers to spread awareness and improve road conditions.

The government is focusing on accident hotspots, also known as black spots. Data shows that many such spots have been recognized, and efforts are being made to secure sharp turns, put up signboards, and stop illegal road cuts. This aims to reduce the risk of accidents significantly.

In case of emergencies, over 1500 government and 2000 private ambulances are ready to serve in Bihar. They promise to reach within 20 minutes in cities and 30 minutes in villages. Additionally, victims of accidents can receive cashless treatment and compensation, ensuring support for those affected.

  • Bihar has been identified as having critical road safety issues.

  • Six districts in Bihar are now ‘zero fatality districts’.

  • The government is actively addressing the causes of road accidents.

  • Efforts include campaigns, meetings, and infrastructure improvements.

  • Emergency services are on standby to assist accident victims promptly.
