According to ASI Kumar Gaurav of the excise department, the operation was based on a tip-off. He stated that the alleged smugglers escaped, taking advantage of the darkness. The Scorpio and another vehicle were impounded. Both vehicles were taken to the Mohania police station for further investigation.
