Darbhanga, Bihar: Flood-like situation in Kusheshwar Asthan and Kiratpur villages

Due to the rise in the water level of Kamla Balan and Kosi rivers, a flood-like situation has occurred in Kusheshwar Asthan and Kiratpur villages in Darbhanga, Bihar. The local administration has claimed that all necessary preparations have been made to tackle the floodwater and provide essential facilities to the affected people.

Flood Water Enters Schools, Studies Halted

The water level of Kosi and Kamla Balan rivers has started decreasing since late Wednesday night, bringing some relief to the affected areas. However, the problem caused by the flood remains the same in the four panchayats situated east of the western embankment of the Kamla Balan river. More than 20 villages, including Ithar, Usri, Ujua Simartoka, and Tilakeshwar Panchayat, have been completely surrounded by water, leading to the closure of schools and a halt in studies.

Floodwater has entered several schools, including Middle School Ujua, Upgraded Middle School Samoura, Ithar, Primary School Laxminia, Sagardina, Kola, Jimraha, Ithar Pokhar, Chowkia, Baltharba, Samoura Mushari, Kunj Bhawan, Jhajha, and Simartoka. Education has been disrupted in these areas.

In addition, floodwater is spreading in more than half a dozen Chaurs of Sughrain and Mahisot of the East block and Bargaon, Chigri Simraha panchayat of Kusheshwarsthan block due to the continuous rise in the water level of Jeebach and Kamla rivers. However, there is no flood-like condition in the other 14 panchayats of Kusheshwarsthan block, including the five panchayats of the eastern block and the one town panchayat west of the Kamla Balan river’s western embankment.

The flood has caused extensive damage to farms, barns, and rural roads, leading to the destruction of crops. The affected areas can only be accessed by boats, and Vineet Kumar, a candidate in the Ujua Simartoka Panchayat elections, has requested the authorities to declare the area as flood-affected. He has also demanded the provision of government boats and immediate relief work to address the problems faced by the people.
