Man arrested in East Champaran fake note case sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment

  • Nepalese national Abi Mohammad Ansari has been sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 in two separate cases related to the East Champaran fake note case.
  • The special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Patna pronounced the sentence.
  • This is the second accused to be sentenced in the case, with the first accused Mohd. Ali Akhtar Ansari being sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment and fined Rs.50,000 last year.
  • The case dates back to September 2015 when Mohd. Ali Akhtar Ansari was caught with Rs 25 lakh 43 thousand in fake 500 notes in Raxaul.
  • During the investigation, it was revealed that the seized notes were smuggled into India from abroad, and Abi Mohammad alias Nabi Mohammad of Nepal was tasked with delivering the fake notes.
  • Pakistani citizen Syed Mohd, living in the United Arab Emirates, had sent the counterfeit notes to the arrested accused via ICS (International Courier Service).
  • The case was initially registered by DRI in Muzaffarpur and later taken over by the NIA on March 15, 2016.

Patna High Court summons response from state government on veterinary hospital facilities

  • The Patna High Court has summoned a response from the state government in a contempt petition regarding the provision of 24-hour medical facilities in veterinary hospitals.
  • A division bench headed by Justice PB Bajanathry heard the petition filed by Guddu Baba.
  • The court has asked the state government to provide details of the number of doctors, employees, and other staff in veterinary hospitals, as well as the facilities available.
  • Information about para medical staff, class IV employees, and other arrangements, including pathological labs, has also been requested.
  • The next hearing for the matter will take place after two weeks.
