This article talks about illegal liquor smuggling in Bihar, where several people were arrested during a train raid.
In Bihar, there’s a strict law against alcohol, but illegal liquor trade is still a big problem. Recently, a group of smugglers used a train to transport a large amount of liquor, especially to celebrate New Year. Authorities took action when they got a tip-off and raided the SMVT Bengaluru-Saharsa Superfast Express.
During the raid, a team from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Excise Department arrested eight individuals. Among them were train staff like coach attendants and a bedroll supervisor. They were found to be involved in the illegal liquor trade, which is still active despite the state’s prohibition laws.
The authorities recovered a total of 181 bottles of foreign liquor worth over ₹1 lakh. The liquor was cleverly hidden in bags and satchels throughout the train. The arrested individuals came from various areas, including Saharsa and Supaul districts.
Specific quantities of liquor were found with different staff members. For instance, one attendant had 50 bottles, while others had between 5 to 40 bottles each. This highlights how some train staff are trying to take advantage of their positions to smuggle alcohol.
Moving forward, the RPF plans to continue their operations against such illegal activities under ‘Operation Vigilant’. They have documented the seized items and shared the details with the Excise Department for further action. The authorities are determined to tackle the ongoing issue of liquor smuggling in the state.
