A gold heist involving railway police in Bihar has led to arrests and an ongoing search for 1 kg of stolen gold.

A shocking gold theft has come to light in Bihar, involving the Government Railway Police (GRP). On November 21, 2025, Dhananjay Shashwat, who works for a gold trader, was traveling on the Howrah-Jodhpur Superfast Express with around 1 kg of gold. During his journey from Koderma to Gaya, he was allegedly robbed by GRP officers.

Initially, the case seemed like a straightforward robbery, and an FIR was lodged against the gold courier and four unknown constables. However, as the investigation progressed, it became clear that things were more complicated. The officer who registered the FIR, Rajesh Kumar Singh, was found to be the mastermind behind the heist.

The investigation revealed that Singh was not only involved but also played a significant role in planning the crime. Evidence such as cellphone locations and technical data helped in identifying him and four other constables as the main accused. Meanwhile, the search for the stolen gold continues, with no leads yet.

Rajesh Kumar Singh has been arrested and is currently in Gaya Central Jail. His plea for bail was denied, indicating that authorities are taking this matter seriously. All four constables involved have been suspended, but they are evading arrest and may have vital information about the missing gold.

Railway DIG Rajeev Mishra expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation, stating that they have substantial evidence. However, he mentioned that the gold trader, Manoj Soni, isn’t cooperating as expected, which is slowing down the progress. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is making the recovery of the stolen gold a top priority.
