The Bihar Police is set to strengthen its fight against terrorism with the opening of four new regional offices of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). These offices will be located in Gaya, Motihari, Darbhanga, and Purnia, alongside the main office in Patna. The plan has been proposed and is awaiting approval from the home department.
During a press conference, ADG (Law and Order) Pankaj Kumar Darad explained that the new regional offices aim to boost the ATS’s capabilities. These offices will not only focus on terrorism but will also monitor activities related to crime and anti-national sentiments in their respective areas.
Each of these regional offices will be headed by an officer of DSP rank. This means they will work closely with other special branches in the districts to keep track of any suspicious activities. The ATS is already monitoring threats in border areas and keeping tabs on individuals released from jail for anti-national activities.
Additionally, the ATS has set up a special team to gather intelligence on various issues, including drug trafficking and crime. They have trained 176 commandos in various skills to ensure safety and security in sensitive areas across the state.
As New Year celebrations approach, the police have been instructed to maintain high vigilance. Extra police presence will be seen at public places, and all police stations are advised to increase night patrols. This ensures that any potential incidents are addressed promptly to keep the community safe.
