Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) President Nitish Kumar’s decision to change sides for the second time in less than three years has attracted attention. Despite ignoring appeals from the components of the Mahagathbandhan, Kumar remains silent on the ongoing political crisis and continues to focus on his work. On Saturday, he inaugurated several new fire engines at the Animal Veterinary College Ground in the city before visiting a famous temple in Buxar for a beautification project.

During the program, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey was present among the attendees. Choubey declined to comment on the ongoing political turmoil in Bihar. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit president, Vinod Tawde, has held the Congress responsible for the possibility of Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) splitting from the opposition alliance ‘India’. JDU spokesperson K.C. Tyagi stated in a conversation with journalists in New Delhi that the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar is on the verge of collapse and accused a section of Congress leaders of repeatedly disrespecting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The ‘India’ alliance, which includes parties from Punjab, West Bengal, and Bihar, is also on the verge of falling apart. With Nitish Kumar’s return to Patna, senior JDU leaders have started visiting the party president’s official residence. It is expected that Kumar will resign as Chief Minister and claim the formation of a new government with the support of the BJP. Leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), including National Vice-President and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, have also gathered at their residence on 10 Circular Road. All party leaders have been asked to submit their mobile phones at the gate of the residence.

Sources who claimed to have knowledge of alternative strategies being sought by the RJD stated that discussions were held regarding the tactics to be adopted in the event of Chief Minister Kumar breaking the alliance. Some RJD leaders are in favor of forming a new government and hope to gather support from eight legislators to secure a majority for the Mahagathbandhan. However, Tejashwi Yadav and others do not seem to agree with this idea, as JDU and BJP together have more than 122 members in the 243-member Legislative Assembly.

Amidst the political turmoil, Tejashwi’s big roar in Bihar, “The game is not over yet!” What can RJD do to turn the tables?
