Consensus Expected on Seat Sharing for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
Leaders of the Grand Alliance, including the top leaders of JDU and RJD, have indicated that a consensus on seat sharing for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is likely to be reached this month. Unlike the 2019 general elections, the situation this time seems to be different.
The Grand Alliance holds 14 Lok Sabha seats, out of which the JDU candidate emerged victorious on eight seats against the RJD candidate and on six seats against the Congress candidate in a direct contest.
If the seating-gating formula is implemented for seat sharing, those who were the runners-up in the 2019 elections may not get a chance to contest.
Smooth Seat Sharing for Some Seats
According to the leaders of the Grand Alliance, there will be minimal tussle for some seats. The Munger Lok Sabha seat, currently represented by JDU national president Lalan Singh, is one such seat where the Congress candidate was defeated in the previous election. The situation seems smooth in Madhepura and Sitamarhi as well.
Valmikinagar has been considered as a traditional seat for JDU, while Congress leader Ranjita Ranjan’s claim in Supaul is no longer valid as she is a Rajya Sabha member now.

- JDU’s Dileshwar Kamat defeated Congress’ Ranjita Ranjan in Supaul.
- JDU’s Mahmood Ashraf defeated Congress’ Mo. Javed in Kishanganj.
- JDU’s Dulalchand Goswami defeated Congress’ Tariq Anwar in Katihar.
- JDU’s Santosh Kushwaha defeated Congress’ Uday Singh in Purnia.
Tussle Expected for Some Seats
Seats like Jehanabad, Banka, and Katihar may witness some tussle as there was a close competition between the candidates of the Grand Alliance in the previous election.
