A serious incident of violence was reported in the Saran district of Bihar on Sunday morning, March 8, 2026. A joint team of the Mining Department and local police was attacked by a group of sand mafias near Jagdam College Dhala in Chapra. The officials were conducting a raid based on a tip-off about illegal sand mining when the mob ambushed them. The attackers used sticks, iron rods, and stones to assault the officers and vandalize government property.
Details of the Attack and Injuries
The operation was led by Mining Inspector Pradeep Kumar, who was injured during the sudden assault. Reports indicate that a group of 20 to 25 people surrounded the team and started attacking them. The mob targeted the officials with iron rods and stones, causing severe damage to the Mining Department’s Scorpio vehicle. The windows of the vehicle were shattered in the process.
Apart from the mining officials, several police personnel from the Mufassil Police Station were also hurt. This included female police officers who were part of the raiding team. After attacking the officials, the group reportedly managed to escape towards Been Toliya village, taking the sand-laden vehicles with them.
Police Investigation and DIG Statement
Following the incident, Saran Range DIG Nilesh Kumar visited the spot to assess the situation. He strongly condemned the act and stated that this was a planned attempt to stop government officials from performing their duties. He assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and no culprit would be spared.
The police have started a detailed investigation to catch the attackers. Officers are currently scanning CCTV footage from the Jagdam College Dhala area to identify the individuals involved in the mob. A manhunt has been launched to track down the suspects who fled the scene after the violence.
