Bihar is currently experiencing severe cold weather, with the maximum temperature dropping to 14 degrees Celsius in Bhagalpur district. This is even lower than the maximum temperature in Shimla. Due to the increasing cold, all schools up to class 8 have been closed until January 20th. There is a possibility of light rain in Bhagalpur and surrounding districts between January 17th and 18th, according to the weather department.

The cold wave continued in Bhagalpur on Tuesday, with the sun not appearing for the third consecutive day. The entire day was accompanied by chilly winds, causing people to only leave their homes for essential tasks. Heaters and fires were lit in homes to protect against the cold, and fog covered the area throughout the day.

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in Bhagalpur reached 14 degrees Celsius, which is even lower than Jammu and Shimla. The minimum temperature remained at eight degrees. The difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures was six degrees, making it the coldest day of the season. The previous record for the maximum temperature was 13.4 degrees on January 10, 2023, and for the minimum temperature, it was six degrees on January 6.

The weather service has predicted light rain or drizzle in Bhagalpur and surrounding districts between January 17th and 18th. The cold weather will continue in Bhagalpur until January 21st, with a possibility of a slight increase in maximum temperature. There will be fog in the morning and mild sunlight during the day, accompanied by westerly winds. Farmers are advised to avoid any kind of spraying in wheat and vegetable crops, and regular inspections should be done to prevent any diseases in potato crops.

So far this season, the record for the minimum temperature has not been broken. On Sunday, the minimum temperature was five degrees, while on January 2nd, it reached six degrees. On January 3, 2019, the minimum temperature dropped to 3.6 degrees. On January 14, 2017, it was 3.9 degrees. The record for the minimum temperature was set at four degrees on January 5, 2019.

Air pollution remained severe in the city on Tuesday, with an air quality index of 414 in the Mayaganj area due to increased dust in the air. The pollution has caused difficulties in breathing for people in the area.
