The weather in Bihar has taken a sudden turn after a brief period of rising temperatures across the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 27 districts, warning of thunderstorms, rain, and lightning strikes. This atmospheric instability and weather condition will remain active through March 11. Citizens and farmers are advised to take necessary precautions as wind speeds could reach up to 30 to 40 kilometers per hour during this period.
Which Districts Are on High Alert?
The sudden shift in atmospheric conditions has brought a drop in temperature, providing temporary relief from the early onset of summer heat. The highest impact and frequency of thunderous activity are currently recorded in the Seemanchal region and North Bihar.
- High Alert Areas: A total of 27 districts including Purnia, Muzaffarpur, Jamui, and the entire Seemanchal region are under a yellow alert for storms.
- Light Drizzle Expected: Districts like Patna, Vaishali, Gaya, and Nalanda will likely experience light rain or drizzle.
- Wind and Lightning: Wind speeds are forecasted at 30 to 40 km/h along with a high risk of lightning strikes in rural areas.
Advisory for Farmers and General Public
With the high frequency of thunderous activity recorded recently, the meteorological department has shared strict safety guidelines. Lightning poses a major safety risk to rural populations and agricultural workers who spend most of their time outdoors.
Farmers are advised to secure their harvested crops immediately to prevent damage. They must avoid staying in open fields during rain and lightning. The general public is instructed to stay away from electric poles, tall trees, and water bodies when the storm hits. It is safer to stay indoors until the weather clears up completely after March 11.
