This article shares updates about the new railway project connecting Kosi and Seemanchal in Bihar, highlighting its significance and plans ahead.

A new railway project in Bihar is making progress! The Bihariganj-Kursela railway line, which is 57.35 kilometers long, is set to connect the underdeveloped areas of Kosi and Seemanchal. The detailed project report (DPR) is ready, and the Railway Board has allocated ₹170.8 crore for the financial year 2025-26.

Due to rising costs in construction and labor, the original budget is being updated. Once the revised budget is completed, it will be sent for approval. A Kolkata-based agency has already finished the necessary track design and survey work just three months ago.

This railway line is expected to be a lifeline for farmers in remote areas like Madhepura, Purnia, and Katihar. The train will start from Bihariganj, passing through various towns and finally reaching Kursela. The plan includes building three stations, four halts, 74 bridges, and 47 level crossings along the route.

The railway will help local farmers transport their crops, such as maize, wheat, jute, and sugarcane, more efficiently to larger markets, ensuring they receive better prices for their produce.

This project has a long history, as it was first announced by Lalu Prasad Yadav in 2009 with an initial budget of ₹192.56 crore. After many years, the new funding has rekindled hope among the local population for its completion.

  • The Bihariganj-Kursela railway project is progressing with ₹170.8 crore allocated.

  • The budget is being revised due to rising construction costs.

  • It will connect remote areas, benefiting local farmers significantly.

  • The project includes multiple stations, halts, bridges, and crossings.
