This article shares updates on traffic monitoring in Bihar, focusing on overspeeding vehicles and the use of a tracking system.

In Bihar, the traffic police and the Transport Department are keeping a close watch on vehicles on the roads. They are currently tracking over 54,000 vehicles in real-time from a command center. This system has helped catch more than 3,500 vehicles that were speeding in the past one and a half years.

In the financial year 2024-25 alone, around 2,000 vehicles were found overspeeding. Most of these were cabs, with 1,051 recorded driving at over 100 kmph. Other vehicles like buses, maxi cabs, and cars also violated the speed limits significantly during this period.

This year, in the financial year 2025-26, 1,545 public vehicles have already been caught speeding. The breakdown shows that 623 were cabs, 583 were buses, and several other types of vehicles. The District Transport Officers have been instructed to issue fines to these vehicles.

Patna is leading in the number of overspeeding incidents, with 472 vehicles reported last year. In the current financial year, the numbers remain high, with many vehicles caught speeding in Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya.

The Transport Department started using the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) in 2022 to ensure the safety of passengers, especially women and children. This system not only provides the speed of vehicles but also tracks their current location and route, enhancing overall safety on the roads.

  • Over 3,500 speeding vehicles have been caught in recent months.

  • Public vehicles breaking speed limits have already exceeded 1,500 this year.
