Migration of Birds during Winter
As winter approaches, many birds including the Redstart, Siberian Rubythroat, Bluethroat, Black-throated Thrush, Daurian Redstart, Long-tailed Rosefinch, and Yellow-browed Warbler migrate to India from several countries across seven seas, including Siberia, Alaska, Russia, and Mongolia. These migratory birds belong to approximately 59 foreign species. They start arriving in December when the cold sets in and stay until around March.
Winter Home for Migratory Birds
India serves as a winter home for a wide variety of migratory birds. The diverse habitats across the country provide suitable conditions for these birds to survive during the harsh winter months. From wetlands to forests, these birds find ample food and suitable nesting spots in various regions of India. Many bird sanctuaries and national parks in India are known for hosting large populations of migratory birds during winter.
Conservation and Protection
The presence of migratory birds in India not only adds to its biodiversity but also contributes to its ecological balance. These birds play a crucial role in pollination and seed dispersal, helping in the growth and survival of various plant species. It is important to conserve and protect the habitats of these migratory birds to ensure their continued presence in India. Efforts should be made to preserve their wintering sites and raise awareness about their conservation among local communities and tourists.
