Murderous Shooting Incident in Motihari Over Land Dispute

In Motihari, a dispute over five decimals of land between two neighbors has turned deadly. While returning from court during a hearing related to the land dispute, the victim, Prem Kumar Singh (40), was shot by criminals riding a bike. Singh was hit by a bullet in his right arm.
According to reports, people gathered upon hearing the sound of the gunshot. The police have been informed about the incident. The injured victim has been admitted to the Rahmania Medical Center in Motihari, where he is currently receiving treatment. The incident took place near Chandauli Pokhara in the Kotwa police station area.
Prem Kumar Singh, who was injured by the shooters, stated that there had been an ongoing dispute with his neighbor, Rupesh Baitha, over the land. Baitha had previously threatened Singh’s life multiple times. The land dispute had been taken to a Panchayat (local council) several times, but a resolution was not reached. Singh mentioned that he had obtained a Section 144 and Section 107 on his own land. He had recently attended court hearings regarding the matter. While returning home from court, when Singh was about half a kilometer away from Chandauli Pokhara, six people on two bikes started shooting at him. When he tried to hide, a bullet hit his right arm. Singh ran away while shouting for help. The people who shot the gun fled the scene. Four of the assailants have been identified, but two are still at large.
Singh further explained that his house is adjacent to Rupesh Baitha’s house. Baitha, along with others, has occupied five decimals of his land. Singh had obtained a Section 144 on his own land. Panchayat meetings had been held multiple times, but a resolution could not be reached. A Panchayat was scheduled to take place on Sunday. Many people, including Singh’s wife Kiran Devi, relatives, and locals, have gathered at the nursing home to visit Singh.
Prem Kumar Singh has three children, two sons and a daughter. The eldest son, Priyesh Kumar (14), the second child, Priyanshu (12), and the youngest, Ashwani Kumar (10), all study in private schools in the village. Singh’s wife, Minu Devi, is currently ill and undergoing treatment for a heart condition.
At the crime scene, two bullet shells were found. After receiving information about the incident, the police from Kotawa police station sent the injured victim to Motihari for treatment. The seriousness of the incident is being investigated based on the victim’s statements.
