Traveling from Bihar to Delhi and Lucknow is set to become much easier and faster for the common people. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is working rapidly to connect Buxar and Chhapra directly to the Purvanchal Expressway. Officials have confirmed that the link road is expected to be operational by June or July 2026, which will significantly reduce traffic congestion and travel duration for daily commuters.

When will the new road be ready for public use?
According to the latest updates, the Buxar-Haidaria link road is likely to open for traffic by June 2026. The entire 134 km long greenfield corridor, stretching from Ghazipur to Manjhi Ghat in Chhapra via Ballia, is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026. Currently, about 85% of the construction work is already finished. The project faced some natural delays due to monsoon challenges and soil shortage near the Ganga river belt, but the work is now back on track.
How much time will this save for travelers?
Once this link is operational, the distance between Bihar and major cities like Delhi, Lucknow, and Agra will effectively reduce by about 17 to 20 kilometers. This shorter route will cut down total travel time by approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. A new interchange has been built near Karimuddinpur in Ghazipur, allowing vehicles from Buxar to drive directly onto the Purvanchal Expressway without navigating through long detours on local roads.
Key features and speed limits of the new highway
The new 4-lane highway is designed with modern safety and speed standards to ensure a smooth journey.
- Speed Limit: Vehicles can travel at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour on this route.
- Safety System: An Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) with CCTV cameras and sensors is being installed to detect accidents and alert the control room immediately.
- Toll Collection: The road will have FASTag-based electronic toll collection to avoid long queues.
- Infrastructure: A new three-lane bridge is also being constructed over the Ganga river in Buxar to help heavy vehicles cross easily.
