Jharkhand government universities and their affiliated colleges have been running the BEd-MEd course since 2005-2006. In a recent online meeting, the Deputy Professor, Assistant Professor, and Professor of the BEd-MEd course discussed the establishment of a high-level committee for the regularization and salary increase of all the teachers. They highlighted the fact that while other states have already established and regularized similar courses within ten years, the Jharkhand government is only providing assurances to the teachers without any concrete action.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Tanveer Yunus, the Protector of the Association, and Dr. Manoj Kumar, the Chairman. The previous year, during the budget session, the Chairman of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly had assured the establishment of the education department in all government universities and affiliated colleges, along with the regularization and salary increase for all the teachers. However, even after 19 years, the government has only provided assurances to the BEd-MEd course teachers, while other states have been following a regular process for establishment and regularization.
The Secretary of the education department and all the respected dignitaries and ministers have been requested to address this issue and take necessary actions. The decision of the Honorable High Court regarding the regularization of contractual employees in Jharkhand has been brought to the attention of the media. It clearly states that the concerned department should be given a demand letter, and the education department should collaborate with the teachers of the BEd and MEd courses in the three government universities and 22 colleges within a week.
The meeting also discussed the need for equal remuneration for the UGC grade pay, as providing different remuneration for the same course in the same state is an economic exploitation. It was suggested to send a request letter to the Secretary of Higher Education to establish a policy in the universities to provide financial assistance and contractual jobs to the families of deceased teachers based on compassion. It was highlighted that three teachers have already passed away, and their families have not received any support from the universities or the state government.
In attendance at the meeting were Dr. Suchitra Behra, Associate Professor at Kolhan University, Dr. Kavita and Dr. Sweta Prati Kujur, faculty members of the BEd department at Jamshedpur Women’s University, Prof. Prati Singh and Geeta Mahato from The Graduate School College for Women, and Dr. Manoj Kumar from Doranda College, Ranchi, along with hundreds of other professors.
