The recent changes in weather in Darbhanga have started to affect flights, causing inconvenience to passengers. Due to low visibility, flights from Darbhanga to Delhi and Mumbai were suddenly cancelled, leaving passengers stranded. Flights SG 8496 to Delhi and SG 116 to Mumbai, scheduled to depart at 03:45 PM and 04:30 PM respectively, were cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
Passengers of these two flights faced a lot of inconvenience. Although the flights landed at Darbhanga airport on time, they were unable to take off due to lack of permission from the Air Traffic Control (ATC) due to low visibility. This led to the cancellation of both flights, causing distress to the passengers.
Operations at the airport are often affected due to the lack of a functioning lighting system. Flight SG 752, scheduled to depart for Delhi at 11:40 AM, was also cancelled. However, this flight did not even arrive at Darbhanga. Passengers were informed about the cancellation a day in advance. It is worth mentioning that in the past, flights have been cancelled at Darbhanga airport due to foggy weather conditions during the winter season.
Passengers traveling by air have been demanding better facilities at Darbhanga airport. Vinay Jha, a passenger, stated that passengers have been demanding improved facilities at the airport for a long time. The ILS system, which was supposed to be operational, has not been fully implemented yet. Another passenger, Lalit Jha, mentioned that even after three years, the necessary facilities are still lacking at Darbhanga airport, leading to sudden cancellations or diversions of flights, despite it being a successful airport under the UDAN scheme. He emphasized the need for immediate provision of basic facilities considering the increasing number of passengers at the airport.
