Chinese national dies in police custody

In Mungerpur, Bihar, Chinese national Li Jiyaqi (63) died during treatment at the SKMCH ward-6 on Tuesday morning. The suspect was sent to jail under the Foreign Act. He had attempted suicide by breaking the glass of his glasses and cutting his throat, stomach, and private parts in the jail bathroom. During treatment, deep wounds were found in these parts of the body. His condition was critical and he was under police custody for treatment.

Arrest and suicide attempt

According to reports, Li Jiyaqi, a resident of Kangshang County in Shandong province of China, was caught near Laxmi Chowk in the Brahmpura police station area of Mungerpur. He was arrested by the Brahmpura police for illegally entering the country on the evening of June 5. The next day of arrest, the suspect injured himself in jail and attempted suicide. He was then admitted to the hospital for treatment where he died on Tuesday. The case has been confirmed by Central Jail Superintendent Brijesh Singh Mehta.

Illegal entry and arrest

It is noteworthy that the Brahmpura police arrested the Chinese national near Laxmi Chowk. He did not have a visa and had illegally entered India through Nepal. After interrogation, the police presented him in court and sent him to jail. During the search of his bag, a passport, mobile, ID card, Chinese currency, Nepali and Indian rupees, and a map of China were found.
