Chirag Paswan Supports “One Nation One Election” Idea, but Raises Concerns
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) President Chirag Paswan has expressed his support for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “One Nation One Election” concept. However, he also highlighted some concerns that need to be addressed. Paswan mentioned that the implementation of this idea leads to the suspension of many schemes during the election period, which adversely affects the beneficiaries.
A Country; There should be an election: Chirag Paswan
Paswan pointed out that the idea of having simultaneous elections across the country has been under discussion for a long time, since around 1999-2000. The Law Commission proposed the concept, which has been taken seriously by the current Prime Minister and the Central Government. Various seminars, parliamentary discussions, and committee meetings have been held to deliberate on this matter. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) fully supports the implementation of “One Nation One Election”.
However, Paswan acknowledged that there are certain shortcomings and technical obstacles that need to be addressed. For instance, if an opposition party brings a no-confidence motion in a state, the question arises of what should happen in such a situation. The Lok Janshakti Party had previously proposed that along with a no-confidence motion, a motion of confidence vote should also be introduced in the Assembly, providing an alternative government option without going through the process of elections.
Opposition Allegations and Future Mandate
Paswan responded to opposition allegations by questioning whether the government or the Prime Minister is scared. He pointed out the stability of the government and questioned if they have anything to fear. He also mentioned the lack of policy and intentions in other alliances and predicted that in 2024, the NDA government would receive a bigger mandate than in 2019.
