A 25-acre ancient lake in Patna, Bihar, which is 2600 years old, has been cleaned, attracting attention and discussion. A staggering 500 tons of waste was removed from the lake, making it a topic of conversation. This marks the first time that the Patna Municipal Corporation has used a special machine for cleaning the ghats. The cleaning initiative began with the Mangal Talab in the capital, using a trash skimmer machine called “Ganga Yan”. The Ganga Ghat was also cleaned using the same machine during the Chhath Puja celebrations.

Continuous Cleaning of the Mangal Talab

For several days now, the Mangal Talab, one of the major lakes in Patna, has been undergoing continuous cleaning with the help of the trash skimmer machine. According to the information received from the municipal corporation, the Mangal Talab has been undergoing regular cleaning using the trash skimmer machine since the Chhath Puja celebrations. Approximately 500 tons of waste has been removed from the Mangal Talab so far.

Cleaning of City Lakes and Ganga Ghats

The cleaning initiative, which started with the Mangal Talab, has now extended to the water bodies of the entire city. The municipal corporation acquired the trash skimmer machine called “Ganga Yan” from Mumbai for 17.5 million rupees. This machine has been used to clean the Ganga River and is now being used to clean the city lakes. This is the first time such a machine has been used by the corporation. The machine, equipped with a cutter, directs the waste towards the inside for disposal. It also has rollers that roll and push the waste into the dumping box through a chain cover. The machine is capable of cleaning up to 10 kilometers in a day.
