Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. He conducted a surprise inspection to review the progress of the ongoing high-tech construction work in the campus. During the visit, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to complete the remaining construction work within the fixed timeline while ensuring high quality so that the common people can get the benefits as soon as possible.
Massive Budget and Bed Capacity
The state government is redeveloping PMCH with an aim to make it a world-class medical facility. The total cost of this massive project is estimated to be around ₹5,540 crore. Once the redevelopment is fully complete, PMCH will have a total capacity of 5,462 beds, making it the second-largest hospital in the world. The first phase has already been completed, and Tower-1 and Tower-2 were inaugurated in May 2025. Currently, about 1,100 beds are fully operational for patients.
High-Tech Features and Connectivity
The new hospital campus is being equipped with modern technology and better infrastructure. A Green Power Grid is being constructed at a cost of ₹250 crore to make the hospital self-reliant in electricity. For critical emergencies, a helipad is being built on the roof of the main building to support air ambulance services. The hospital has also been connected directly to Atal Path and Ganga Pathway to avoid traffic congestion. A multi-level car parking has been built to park more than 2,500 vehicles at a time. The entire project is targeted to be completed by 2027.
