**Indi Alliance Components Remain, Mahagathbandhan Stays**
In Bihar, the attempt to form an opposition alliance against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in May-June, seems to have failed in the state. Before the preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took his party Janata Dal United into the National Democratic Alliance. The Trinamool Congress has fielded candidates on all seats in West Bengal and Bihar. Now, most opposition parties under the Mahagathbandhan are not getting seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. The parties under the Mahagathbandhan are dividing the seats among themselves.
**Your Preparation Direction Has Changed**
Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, and Shibu Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) were also hopeful of getting Lok Sabha seats in Bihar under the Indi Alliance. AAP had announced preparation for all 40 seats last week, but now they seem to be reconsidering. In Chief Minister Nitish’s home district Nalanda, AAP’s former state vice president and zonal in-charge Manoj Kumar focused on the Assembly elections but did not mention Lok Sabha seats. This is despite posters calling Kejriwal the Prime Minister being put up during the opposition unity meeting in Patna in June.
**Shiv Sena, NCP, JMM Also Wanted Seats**
In the first meeting of the opposition unity in Patna, Kejriwal left midway, but Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Hemant Soren, and others stated that the party will work hard for the Lok Sabha elections. However, the current situation shows that apart from Laloo Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal, only Congress is active under the Indi Alliance in Bihar. Congress is also upset about losing a seat in the Legislative Council. Left parties are hoping for a fair seat distribution but are not openly stating their demands. The hope for a Rajya Sabha seat on Deepankar Bhattacharya’s name from RJD-Congress was in vain. In the 2019 election results, RJD has no MPs, Congress has one, and left parties have none. This means that Congress has the most claim to seats in 2019. In this situation, AAP had the opportunity to demand seats. NCP has also previously established a presence here, so it could have made a claim. However, the current situation indicates that the seat distribution will not be under the Indi Alliance but within the Mahagathbandhan.
